The villager autonomy system

which has been in existence for nearly 40 years

has promoted the development process of grassroots democracy. However

with the transformation of rural society

the original social foundation of villager autonomy has changed

making the once praised system questioned now. The author thinks that the main reasons for its difficulties are three kinds of relations not well handled

four kinds of unbalanced democracy development

five kinds of strength obvious lack

and six aspects of serious alienation. In order to solve the plight of villager autonomy

we need to perfect laws and regulations and eliminate institutional barriers

to strengthen the collective economy and consolidate the material foundation

to cultivate endogenous motive force and enhance autonomy aftereffect

to seize development opportunities and practice in practice.
