摘要
Abstract
Cutting among college students is a dangerous behavior that is on the rise in learning institutions. Students in these institutions are inflicting self-injury using sharp objects like razor blades
knives
and broken glasses. The paper explains the meaning of cutting and its prevalence amongst youths in colleges. Furthermore
the paper does extensive literature reviews by examining what research scholars have done to establish the existence of this awful behavior using peer-reviewed journals and scholarly books. The review proceeds to discuss the findings in the scholarly works of the researchers while reviewing the literature
and the results are that the leading cause of the act is depression caused by social isolation. Besides
the paper finds out that the prevalence rate of the cutting behavior is more in college youths
that is
the undergraduates as compared to graduate students. Prevalently
the demographics show that female students have a high likelihood of inflicting self-pain as compared to male students. The paper goes ahead to establish that few of these cases are reported to psychologists for expatriate attention by the victims.
