据预测，很快有一天，计算机化的人工治疗师（Artificial Therapist， AT）将治疗人类患者。此类AT很可能在“如果…那么…”（if-then）的药物分配范式下充分发挥作用：如果存在条件“A”，那么就服用药物“B”。但由于存在许多重大的逻辑挑战、形而上学挑战和伦理挑战，程序员似乎不太可能开发出如一个充满关爱的人类治疗师那样具有洞察力智慧和敏锐同理心的技术。为了改善心理治疗，当代从业者最好减少对“智能”技术和心理动力学药物的依赖，转而增加哲学在精神保健中的应用。
