Abstract

As a common disease with complex pathogenesis

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is generally relevant to insulin resistance (IR)

obesity

and oxidative stress. Astaxanthin is a type of carotenoid with strong antioxidant activity

which plays a significant part in disease prevention and treatment. Many pieces of research have shown that astaxanthin can improve NAFLD through different mechanisms. This article summarizes these proven effects and mechanisms.
