摘要

Abstract

This paper examines the cognitive mechanisms of metaphor in English news headlines and their role in cross-cultural communication

focusing on environmental protection reports from The New York Times and China Daily. By comparatively analyzing the types

structures

and functions of metaphors in the environmental protection headlines of the two newspapers

this study reveals the differences in metaphor usage between Chinese and English headlines and the cultural cognitive factors behind them. The study found significant differences in the frequency

types

and cognitive mechanisms of metaphor usage between Chinese and English headlines

reflecting the cognitive approaches and value orientations of people in different cultural contexts regarding environmental issues.
