Abstract

This research paper

based on Pierre Bourdieu’s theory of cultural capital

explores the idea that economic capital and cultural capital are interconvertible. In other words

individual with higher incomes can use their economic resource to invest private education for their kid

and thus enhancing their chances of educational success. The aim of this study is to explore the views of parents in mainland China on their children's participation in extra-curricular language tutoring classes in Grade 1 to 3. By understanding the desires and their perception

the study seeks to predict the trends and prospects of the industry. The research was conducted through online questionnaire and interviews. The survey results indicate that most of parents believe that extracurricular classes have positive effect on kids’ development no matter academically or personally

especially in subjects like Mathematics

Science and Technology field. This might imply the potential roadmap for the development of extracurricular language tutoring industry.
