摘要

Abstract

Films and TV programs have become an effective way of cross-cultural communication. Therefore

the translation of subtitles can decide whether the purpose of the communicative activity is achieved. Skpostheorie is perhaps the most influential theory in functionalism. It provides a new way to investigate translation activity as a communicative process rather than simply reproducing one language in another. The purpose of subtitle translation

also a communicative action

is to help the audience in target language better understand what the original program intends to express. This thesis attempts to analyze the subtitle translation of the English comedy Upstart Crow from the perspective of Skopostheorie.
