摘要

Abstract

This paper explored Nazneen's identity construction in Brick Lane from a postcolonial perspective

using the theories of discourse and power and the concept of "the other." The paper examined Nazneen's existential dilemma and the process of regaining her identity. Initially

Nazneen lacked self-identity and faced oppression in white society. In London

she was inspired to achieve economic and spiritual independence

regaining her discourse power. Ultimately

she integrated into British society

shifting from "the other" to "the self." This study offers a new research angle

enriching the understanding of Brick Lane. It also highlights the multiple oppressions faced by Third World women

emphasizing the importance of their self-discovery and empowerment.
