This paper investigates the psychological transformation of the unnamed narrator in Edgar Allan Poe's "The Fall of the House of Usher". The investigation employs close textual analysis combined with Gothic literary theory. It demonstrates that the narrator's perceptions undergo significant change. Specifically

his views of the Usher mansion

Roderick Usher

and his own rationality evolve markedly over time. This evolution leads to a progressive decline in the narrator's objectivity. Furthermore

this decline parallels Roderick Usher's mental deterioration. The analysis incorporates key theoretical elements. These include Gothic literary theory

Freudian concepts concerning the uncanny

and discussions addressing narrative unreliability. This approach reveals how Poe utilizes the narrator's psychological journey.
