摘要

Abstract

Wells'

The Time Machine

constructs a dystopian ecological vision of the future

shaped by environmental degradation

civilization decline

and biological devolution. This research adopts a tripartite theoretical lens to examine how Wells metaphorically critiques anthropocentrism and its self-destructive consequences. Wells' ecological imagination transcends the dominant 19th-century narrative of human conquest over nature. He engages in the central questions of contemporary ecological criticism with a prophetic voice. Within the vast temporal and spatial dimensions of the cosmos

human civilization emerges as a fleeting presence in the ecological chain and its survival is contingent upon the reconstruction of reverence for the natural world.
