摘要

Abstract

Kanoko Okamoto (1889–1939) published her novel

Strong Flowers

in the June 1937 issue of

Bungeishunjū

. In real life

Okamoto had a deep affinity for water—rivers and seas—and frequently incorporated these images into her literary works. In Strong Flowers

rivers and oceans serve as metaphors for life

and the "volume of life" is used to express the intensity of vital force. Exploring "life" is a central theme in Okamoto's literature. Set against the backdrop of the author's personal experiences

the novel depicts a fateful dynamic between powerful women and feeble men

reflecting Okamoto's distinctive understanding of life.
