Based on the essential provisions of cooperatives
this paper explains the mechanism of agricultural technology extension by cooperatives and examines the agricultural technology extension by cooperati ves
in reality
using data from a random survey of 402 cooperatives in Jiangsu
Sichuan
and Jilin provinces. The results show that cooperatives play a more limited role in agricultural extension. This is because most of the current cooper atives are not governed according to the essential provisions of cooperatives
the cooperative element is weak or even missing
and the premise that cooperatives are beneficial to agricultural extension no longer exists. Further empirical analysis reveals that the more cooperat ive elements there are
the stronger the technical service function is
which indirectly confirms the hypothesis that "a veritable cooperative is conducive to the role of agricultural extension". Finally
the paper gives policy suggestions to promote the role of cooperatives in agricultural extension.
