Abstract

This research investigates the intricate relationship between Research and Development (R&D) investment and patent applications

using a combination of qualitative and quantitative methodologies to provide a comprehensive understanding of how these elements interact and influence each other. By integrating a detailed review of existing literature with empirical data analysis

this study explores how external factors like industry characteristics

firm size

and national innovation systems affect this relationship. The findings

derived from correlational research design

regression analyses

and industry-specific examples

indicate a positive correlation between R&D investments and patent applications

particularly highlighting variations across different industries and organizational scales. This research contributes to innovation economics by substantiating the critical role of R&D investments in fostering innovation and driving economic growth. The results offer valuable insights for both corporate decision-makers and policymakers

emphasizing the need for targeted strategies to enhance R&D activities and stimulate patent production. While the results are consistent across diverse contexts

the study acknowledges potential limitations and suggests directions for future research to further dissect the nuances of the R&D-patent relationship.
