The concept of the 'original sin of data' in our digital society is highly relevant as it reflects the fundamental transformation of data into a commodified resource

impacting individual freedoms and social dynamics. This idea links closely to the shift from surveillance capitalism to data colonialism

marking a significant evolution in how data is perceived and utilized. Surveillance capitalism focuses on the exploitation of personal data for profit

whereas data colonialism extends this exploitation to a broader

more systematic level

integrating data into the very fabric of capitalist enterprises and reshaping global power dynamics. The transition highlights a growing concern about the ethical implications and power imbalances in the digital age.In the wave of datafication in society

the concept of 'data original sin' is indeed valid. This concept is crucial in understanding the transition from surveillance capitalism to data colonialism

highlighting the evolving role of data. This paper approaches media and communication studies from the perspective of symbolic power

aiming to elucidate the complex mechanisms through which media institutions influence the social order. It delves into the intricate impact of media on societal structures

emphasizing the significance of data in these dynamics.
