摘要

Abstract

This paper explores the current practices

challenges

and future directions of English pronunciation education in our country

with a particular focus on teacher training institutions

classroom implementation

and learner autonomy. While pronunciation instruction is recognized as a vital component of communicative competence

it often remains underemphasized in formal curricula and classroom practice. Current approaches in Chinese education tend to prioritize segmental features and rote repetition

with limited integration of suprasegmental aspects such as intonation and rhythm. Challenges include insufficient teacher training

lack of effective teaching materials

limited use of technology

and a persistent bias toward native-like pronunciation models. The paper highlights promising future directions

including a shift toward intelligibility-focused pedagogy

incorporation of digital tools and AI-driven feedback

and the development of student-centered strategies for autonomous learning. Recommendations are provided for policymakers

teacher educators

classroom teachers

and students to promote more balanced

effective

and sustainable pronunciation instruction in the Chinese EFL context.
