摘要

Abstract

The paper provides a detailed investigation into the historical changes of the central route of the Silk Road—specifically

the historic transportation corridor running from Aksu through Awati County to Yarkand (Shache). It argues that from the Han and Tang dynasties up until the Ming dynasty

the primary route between Yarkand and Aksu passed through the Awati oasis

largely following the course of the Yarkand River. Travelers would cross the Kashgar River in the lower reaches of the Yarkand River and then traverse the arid desert terrain within Awati County—a journey fraught with hardship and danger. Following the Qing dynasty's consolidation of control over Xinjiang

official relay roads were constructed. West of Bachu

the route between Yarkand and Aksu remained largely unchanged; however

east of Bachu

the road was rerouted slightly eastward

now winding through a series of oases and river floodplains adjacent to the ancient path. The study offers valuable insights into the spatial history of Awati County—the very cradle of Dolan culture. Viewed through the lens of frontier reclamation and joint development

it also sheds important light on the historical narrative of community formation. Moreover

this research significantly contributes to a deeper understanding of how successive Chinese central governments governed the Western Regions.
