摘要

Abstract

Based on intertextuality theory

this study systematically traces the evolutionary trajectory of the Judge Dee IP's "China–West–China" cycle. Robert Hans van Gulik's

Judge Dee Mysteries

integrated Eastern and Western narrative traditions

laying the cornerstone of "rational intertextuality" for this IP. Early screen adaptations in both East and West developed a relatively faithful "transplant intertextuality" upon this foundation

which subsequently diverged into two creative paths in China: the "narrative internalization" represented by Qian Yanqiu's

Detective Di Renjie

television series

and the "spectacle externalization" constructed by Hark Tsui's

Detective Dee

film series. However

later creations of this IP gradually fell into a predicament of "rigid intertextuality". The 2024 TV series

Judge Dee's Mystery

can be regarded as an attempt at "restorative intertextuality"

whose mixed results and controversies highlight the difficulty of breaking this deadlock. To address the aforementioned crisis

a three-stage creative methodology is proposed

aiming to offer a reference for the sustainable development of this IP.
