Against the background of the parallel advancement of urban renewal

the upgrading of cultural and tourism consumption

and the living protection of intangible cultural heritage

intangible cultural heritage (ICH) workshops are no longer merely production sites for traditional craftsmanship. Instead

they have gradually become compound cultural spaces that connect government governance

market consumption

community participation

and cultural identity. Taking the first batch of Beijing ICH workshops as the research object

this paper first reviews their spatial distribution and typological characteristics as a whole. It then introduces the perspective of the production of space to analyze how policy forces

market forces

cultural inheritance forces

and public participation jointly shape the space of ICH workshops. On this basis

the paper further discusses how spatial production supports skill transmission

cultural communication

and industrial transformation. The study finds that the first batch of Beijing ICH workshops presents a spatial pattern characterized by "aggregation in the old-city core

distinctive embedding in outer suburbs

and node-based coverage across the whole municipality." Their development has promoted the transformation of ICH from closed inheritance toward open

experiential

and consumption-oriented communication. At the same time

these workshops still face problems such as insufficient spatial-use efficiency

superficial transmission of craftsmanship

and pronounced tensions between commercial development and cultural authenticity. Accordingly

this paper proposes measures such as optimizing spatial functions by category

improving talent and funding support

building cross-departmental collaboration platforms

and strengthening digital communication and intellectual property protection

in the hope of providing references for the sustainable development of Beijing ICH workshops and the protection of ICH in megacities.
