Abstract

Many believe the golden age of piano music has ended with the passing of luminaries like Rubinstein

Arau

Rudolf Siegling

and Horowitz. Yet in the 21st century

with thriving piano manufacturing

proliferating training institutions

and a steady stream of talented pianists

is this merely the fading glow of a bygone era? What kind of pianists will captivate today's audiences? In an age where material progress outpaces spiritual growth

how will piano performances evolve? These are questions the author ponders

offering a personal analysis.
